Comments from runners.

Beautiful, fun, tough, great logistics. I would do it again.

Anyone running this race is warned that there are places without crowd support because we run through places that just aren't accessible with Highway 1 closed for the race. But the fellow racers, in the only race I've done where people weren't listening to iPods, more than made up for it--I felt a camaraderie with everyone on the course, and the course entertainment was great. And where there were crowds, they were very supportive--cheering for everyone as opposed to looking for a particular person and only cheering for them. This is a great race with the most beautiful scenery possible and the best organized race organization around.

Great race. Well organised. Even though the weather was not great, it was still well worth travelling half way round the world for the spectacular scenery.

Best marathon to date. I loved the course and am SO grateful for such a well-run event that I am trying to convince other friends to try this course. Thank you, Big Sur!! :)

I don't consider myself an elite runner but I know I can finish a marathon. I have finished 3 marathons so far.I was helping a friend of mine to finish his first marathon and was able to get him to 16 miles after which he gave up. I then went for 5 hr 22 mile cutoff time. I was able to get there at 12:04 when I was in Wave 3. The marshall basically stopped me and directed me along with lots of people who came over 5 to 20 min late to the bus to take us to the finish line. I explained to him, that I am coming from DC for medal and I was helping a friend to finish marathon and that I started in Wave 3. He just flat out mentioned, I can't finish the marathon. Now I am not sure how he got that idea. Before I was stopped , I saw several people not even 100 yards away from me who were allowed to run and finish. The worst part, I was made to sit in the bus for next 40 min. I understand that the roads were meant to be open, but I fail to understand why we all were sitting in the bus. Also, people who were stopped by marshall were running even after the cutoff time as I saw multiple participants along the route. In all, I am very disappointed. I loved the scenery but thats not the only reason anyone should go for a marathon. I guess I was one unlucky participant.I would love to come back but after spending all the money for flight, hotel ,even after 2 weeks, I feel empty. I am not angry, I am just disappointed. It should have been handled better.

This was an awesome first marathon experience for me - well organized, great logistics, good level of communication from the organizers, and a beautiful if challenging course to run. Can't wait to run this race again!

This was the most difficult race I've ever done, but the most memorable! How can the beauty of the California coast be surpassed? The course was extremely difficult, but I knew that before I started. The wind was a big factor in my performance, but clearly beyond the scope of the organizers. I participated with the Runners World Challenge, which provided amazing support to us. The volunteers were absolutely outstanding and the entertainment along the course was terrific as well. I thought all the water tables were well organized and well stocked. I came from the East Coast and don't anticipated doing this race again. But I will be forever grateful that I had this opportunity to experience this race experience!

The race course is picturesque if the fog is not rolling in, but very challenging to me who came off an injury 3 weeks prior to the start of the race. The facilities at the finish were first class, and the atmosphere created at the start, through the singing of the National Anthem, made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up! The prevailing climate and race temperature is almost perfect for an event like this.
