Comments from runners.

I liked the course this year much better than 2012....more scenic, shaded.

Small race with local feel. This means almost no crowd support, but also no hassle as with some bigger races in getting to the starting line, etc. Easy to park at the start and no lines for bathrooms. Race expo was very underwhelming if you're used to big/good ones. They ran out of small race shirts only a few hours into the expo even though we reserved our size well in advance, but they did allow us the option of having our correct size shipped to us. That said, the shirts were really boring and ugly. The finishers' medals were dull too. Good fuel stops every two miles with sports drink and water. The volunteers were great. Course was hillier than I expected. A lot of steep downhill running in the first half really trashed my quads for the second half. The finish around the high school track is pretty fun. I enjoyed that. My biggest complaint was that I waited in line for a massage for about an hour and 15 minutes after the race (which I was happy to do since the massages were an insane 20-30 minutes each!), but the problem was that just as I was about to get on the massage table another runner ran up to tell us that the last shuttle bus back to our cars was about to leave. This was really poor, as a race organizer should have come into the tent well before that to warn us not to bother waiting in line because we wouldn't make it in time. So... I wasted all that time in line cramping up and then never got the massage anyway! Another not so great thing is that the race finishes near your hotel but you have to take a shuttle to get your car 30 miles away and then drive another 30 miles back to get to the hotel area. Kind of a bummer when all you want is a hot shower and food. Overall, this race was just okay in my opinion but I'm not sure I would recommend it to friends and I won't be doing it again.

Kudos to the marathon team for laying out a new course in under a month. Having said that; I am looking forward to the regular course next year! The sharp decents trashed my legs and I ended up much slower than anticipated. I have run all 8 races and the experience continues to improve. Packet pick-up/expo was really nice this year (are they ever going to finish Stroudsburg HS); water stops were well manned; and the small groups of spectators enthusiastic. If you need big race amenities (and costs) this race is not for you. If you enjoy small races, beautiful scenery, and a challenging course, give Pocono a try, you will not regret it.

For a last minute change in course, the fans were great. Naturally I hated every uphill since this is a downhill marathon, but there is no course all downhill. If you step outside the organizer's perspective, there are some things not entirely apparent. For instnace, I found the High School Saturday, but walked all the way around it to find the registration for lack of clear direction. More important: we all live off the interntet, but nothing in the registration hand out confirmed the starting time and that became a big deal the night before!!!! Great race, great people, just step outside your all knowing world to hepl the racers know what and where everything is. But thanks again!!

Especially considering the late change in course the race was run very well.
