Running Background:
I consider myself an advanced runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run this particular marathon because I have run all of the Big Island marathons.
Training:
I trained for 12 months following the Galloway run/walk program. During my training I averaged 25 miles per week. The best training advice I received is to be consistent, do the miles, and speed kills.
Race Day:
The 2007 Big Island International Marathon was worse than expected. I dehydrated which was my fault.
On the bright side, the race was very well organized.
Recovery:
My recovery wasn't bad. I made sure to take in lots of fluids and rest in the days following the race.
Running Gear Recommendations:
Tips/Words of Encouragement:
The clock's ticking, better sooner than later.
Plans to Run Another:
I plan to continue running marathons. I do it to maintain my fitness, and because it's a fun social event.
For my next marathon, I'll log more miles in my training.
