2006 Twin Cities Marathon - St. Paul, MN
This was my 2nd marathon and I finished in 4:48:09.
I consider myself a beginner runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run a marathon because my daughter is a runner and likes to discuss fitness topics with me. We have run several half marathons over the past several years. We enjoy discussing the race after we complete it.
To make sure I was well hydrated on my weekly long runs, I would freeze drinks and place them along my course. This is something I would recommend to people who don't have easy access to water stops or don't want to carry water with them.
For this marathon I focused on a run/walk combination for the entire race. I trained using a 4 minute run/1 minute walk for the whole race. I found out that doing this enabled me to complete my runs faster than if I ran them straight. It is quite strange. It is also very hard to walk for a minute when you are only 4 minutes into the race. When I did this during the marathon I felt like people were saying "next time train if you can't even run 5 minutes." I ran this marathon faster than I did my first one. I would do it again.
The 2006 Twin Cities Marathon was better than expected. I love running the TCM. This was my second time doing it. The Twin Cities are beautiful in October. I have run a lot of half marathons with fewer people in the crowd. The crowd support is great. There are a lot of great sights along the course. I would recommend this race to others.
My recovery wasn't bad. I walked and made sure I stayed hydrated.
